Sheltering at Home? Do the Following Things to Advance Your Career
Get ahead without losing your head.
If COVID-19 has you sheltering at home, there are things you can do to pass the time productively. Using the training you received as a student athlete, you strategize to the point that your performance improves vastly. When you walk away from this experience, you’ll be changed but in the best way imaginable.
Here are some ideas of things you can do to advance your career while sheltering at home:
- Brush up on your knowledge. Take an online course, attend a virtual training session, and get licensed or certified. Every minute spent learning can improve your knowledge base and make you more valuable to your employer.
- Put your skills to good use. If you know that you can benefit your community by virtually volunteering, sign up to do so. Volunteer.org is one place you can find virtual opportunities. It’s a way to pitch in, help out in a crisis, do something you enjoy doing, and gain a few new references in the process.
- Network like a boss. In the age of ‘social distancing,’ relationship-building has never been more critical. Join professional networking sites and start getting to know other people like yourself who feel that connection is imperative to success.
- Revamp your resume. Add what you’ve accomplished while sheltering at home. Include any new skills you’ve developed, certificates or licenses you received, and relationships with non-profits or similar groups that you’ve built. Proof the final copy for spelling and grammatical errors so that the resume looks polished and professional.
Come out of an adverse situation stronger than before. There are many things you can do to advance your career. Creating a list of goals you’d like to achieve each day gives you something positive to channel your energy into immediately. You’ll have a clearer picture of how to get from Point A to Point B.
